Homeloans up and hiring down.
Rate cut boosts home loans. The number of new owner-occupier housing loans rose by 1.4 per cent in November while the value of loans rose by 2.2 per cent. But home loans aren’t being drawn down with the value of loans not advanced at 20-month highs, up 10.7 per cent on a year ago.
The size of loans is rising again. The average home loan rose by 0.4 per cent in November but was still 2.7 per cent lower than a year ago – the biggest annual fall in 10.5 years (since February 2001).
New hiring is down again. The number of job advertisements fell for the fifth time in six months in December, easing by 0.9 per cent.
